Do PBGV’S make good family pets?

PBGV’s make fabulous family pets! Known as the ‘happy hound’ PBGVs are not only excellent with adults but also with babies, toddlers, children, people with disabilities, and the list could go on.

Are pbgv’s easy to train?

They can be. Like all dog breeds, it depends on how much time and effort you put into the training. We have had no issues with toilet training or basic lead obedience, however, PBGV’s are known to follow their noses over their ears so keep this in mind!

How Long do pbgv’s live for?

The breed average is between 11-13 years old but we have known some to live to 16 years old!

are there any health concerns to be aware of?

At the moment the biggest health concern is POAG which stands for Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma. This is an inherited disease which causes a gradual increase in pressure within the eye. This is something that rarely affects PBGV’s nowadays due to the increase in DNA testing, we are pleased to say we’ve never had a single case! We can also guarantee that our lines are free from epilepsy.

are pbgv’s suited to city life?

Yes! Being from the hound group, the PBGV is suited to any lifestyle, including city living. They are quite content as long they have a good walking place and plenty of things to sniff/occupy their minds.
